We’ll show you how to set up an Alexa music alarm using your voice, create one in the Alexa app, and an alternative method using Routines.

Create a Music Alarm With Your Voice

To create an Alexa music alarm, you first need to ask Alexa to make one using your voice. Curiously, the feature is unavailable in the app until you use your voice, which then enables you to reuse your selection for future alarms—more on that shortly.

To play music when your alarm sounds, say something like:

“Alexa, set an alarm for 8 a. m. every day to play soft jazz. ” “Alexa, set a weekday alarm for 8 a. m. to play Kendrick Lamar. ” “Alexa, create an alarm for 8 a. m. tomorrow morning playing Voulez-Vous by ABBA. ”

Now, when your alarm goes off, you’ll hear your chosen song, artist, or playlist from your default streaming service instead of the regular alarm tone. If you want to specify your streaming service, mention it in your request.

Reuse Your Music Selection in the Alexa App

If you’ve followed the previous steps to create a music alarm, then here’s how to reuse your music choice. Open up the Alexa app for iOS or Android, and tap More. Select Alarms & Timers, then Add Alarm. Set the time you want it to go off, the device the alarm should play on, and whether it should be repeated.

Then, press Sound. At the top, under Music Tones, you’ll see what you requested with your voice earlier. Tap your chosen Music Tone, then the back arrow. Finally, press Save in the top-right corner.

Now, when the alarm goes off, it will play your selected music. These steps can be repeated for any future alarms, and if you want to add another Music Tone, just repeat the steps from the previous section. Create a Music Alarm With an Alexa Routine

There is an alternative, albeit somewhat lengthier, process to the one above. This method involves using an Alexa Routine, which might come in handy if you want to chain multiple actions together after your music starts playing.

To begin, open the Alexa app and tap More, then Routines. Select the plus sign in the top-right, then give your routine a name. Tap When this happens, then Schedule and At Time. Select the time that your alarm normally goes off, and whether you want it to repeat on certain days. Save your selection by tapping Next.

Under Add action, choose Music & Podcasts. Type in your chosen song, artist, playlist, or station, then set a provider or timer to stop playing if desired and tap Next. Finally, press Choose Device and pick which device you want to start playing music from, then Save.

Now, when it reaches the time you set, your music will start playing automatically. If you want to add other actions, like turning on your lights, checking your calendar, or hearing the latest traffic updates, then just press Add Action and select the applicable option.

Wake Up Smoothly With Alexa

Early mornings don’t have to be a chore if you’ve got Alexa by your side. These steps can be used to completely transform the way your morning unfolds, whether you want some upbeat music to kickstart your workday or something softer to rise gently on the weekends.

Here’s one final tip: avoid waking up to your favorite song unless you want to quickly ruin your enjoyment of it. Instead, try including it in a playlist or ask Alexa to play the artist’s radio—you’ll thank yourself for it.
