RELATED: How To Play Jakiro In Dota 2

Players new to Dota 2 should stick to a few starter characters to get their bearings. Lich is one such spooky hero that is perfect for beginners but does immense damage simultaneously. This guide will cover everything there is to know about playing Lich as a POS 5 hero.

How to Play Lich in Dota 2

Lich is primarily a support hero, also referred to as a hard support MOBAs. While Lich can’t carry a game on his own, players can use the hero’s abilities to support the safe lane carry and keep the opposing heroes at bay.

When playing Lich, players should opt for the following starter items:

Observer Ward (For vision) Sentry Ward (To block neutral camps) Tango (Can be consumed or shared with the safe lane carry for HP) Mantle of Intelligence Wind Lace (For movement speed) Clarity

At the beginning of the game, Lich’s primary role is to pull neutral creeps towards allied creeps so that the safe lane carry can farm. If need be, the player will need to use Lich’s abilities to keep the opposing heroes from preventing the safe lane carry from farming. Opt for the Frost Shield ability to keep enemies at bay and allow the safe lane carry to farm. The Frost Shield ability can also be used to save a safe lane carry if the off-lane heroes are getting the upper hand.

When the player has enough farm, the following items should be purchased for Lich:

2 Null Tullismans (For spell mana cost reduction, quick mana regeneration, and greater intelligence) Arcane Boots (To get mana that can also be shared with allies) Aether Lens (Increases spell casting range)

Please note, in the beginning, it is a good idea to stay clear of weird builds players come across online.

With these items, the player can get easy kills with the safe lane carry if they get the following combination of abilities: Frost Shield > Frost Blast > Sinister Gaze > Chain Frost. As soon as the opposing heroes are close enough to the tier 1 tower, use the Sinister Gaze ability to lure the opposing hero. During this time, the opposing hero will be vulnerable to attack by the safe lane carry.

If another opposing hero tries to intervene, cast the Chain Frost ability. However, only use the Chain Frost ability when two or more opposing heroes are near. Chain Frost releases an orb of frost that bounces between enemies causing devastating damage and slowing them down simultaneously. If the safe lane carry is attacking the opposing enemies during this time, make sure to cast the Frost Shield ability to increase the hero’s armor and further slow down enemies around them.

While playing POS 5 Lich, players must continue purchasing wards to grant vision for the team. Additionally, sentry wards should also be purchased to find and destroy enemy wards. To further support the team, players can purchase items like:

Boots of Travel (Increases movement speed and reduces teleportation cooldown. The item also allows players to teleport on units without consuming a Town Portal Scroll) Kaya (Increases intelligence, mana regeneration amplification, spell lifesteal amplification, and spell damage amplification) Force Staff (The player can use the item to save their hero or an allied hero by pushing the target in the direction they are facing by 600 units) Assault Cuirass (The item grants 5 armor and 30 attack speed to nearby allied units and structures while decreasing nearby enemy unit or structure armor by 5) Shiva’s Guard (When activated, Shiva’s Guard causes 200 magical damage and slows down enemies by 40% for 4 seconds) Glimmer Cape (The player can use the item to save their hero or an allied hero by providing invisibility and magic resistance for 5 seconds)

For beginners that need more guidance playing heroes, they will find the Dota 2 newcomer experience to be right up their alley.
