Whether you want to reduce your screen time or streamline your work schedule, disabling Snapchat notifications can help keep distractions and prompts to open the app to a minimum.

How to Disable Snapchat Notifications

Whether you use Android or iOS, here’s what you need to do to pause and disable Snapchat notifications on your mobile phone…

Disabling Snapchat Notifications on an Android Device

To disable Snapchat notifications on Android:

Open Snapchat. Once the camera opens, tap your profile icon on the top left of the screen. A highlight of the story appears if you have anything uploaded. Otherwise, it displays your Bitmoji. Click the gear icon in the top right corner to open Settings. Scroll down to Notifications. Tap it to change the way Snapchat delivers alerts on your Android device. You can disable all notifications or only the notifications that bother you. Untick the Enable Notifications box to avoid all alerts and notifications from Snapchat. If you would like to avoid only certain notifications, uncheck only those boxes.

These settings are applied to all devices until you change them.

You can also go to your Android phone Settings and tap Apps. From there, search Snapchat and select Notifications. Turn off Show notifications and all your Snapchat notifications will be disabled.

Disabling Snapchat Notifications on an iOS Device

Snapchat offers a slightly different interface on iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad. With only a few simple steps, you can change these alerts on your iPhone.

Tap the round icon in the top left corner of the screen. It either shows highlights or your Bitmoji, depending on whether you have an ongoing story. On the top right, you will see a gear icon for Settings. Open that to access a new menu that helps you customize the generic settings and make the app more suitable to use. Scroll around until you see Notifications and tap it. Unlike an Android device, you see toggle buttons instead of checkboxes. Snapchat for iPhone does not offer you the settings to disable all notifications simultaneously. You will need to individually turn off each category of notifications. Tap the toggles to turn off all the notifications. If you want to avoid a specific alert, only turn off that category.

The settings are automatically applied across all your devices. You need to change them again if needed.

Another way to block all notifications from Snapchat on your iOS device is by going to Settings on your iPhone. From there, select Notifications. Now scroll down until you see Snapchat and disable all notifications.

How to Use the Do Not Disturb/Silent Mode on Snapchat

Sometimes, a specific user in our Snapchat contact list can be really irritating, but it is not possible to block them because you don’t want to offend them or for some other reason. In such a scenario we recommend putting them on the Do Not Disturb mode.

Snapchat offers you the settings to mute notifications from one or more users. They can continue to send you messages without knowing that you muted them. However, a person on mute is not blocked from watching your Snapchat stories. If someone on the app is harassing you, you should rather block them or report the user on Snapchat.

To put a user on Silent mode:

Tap and hold their username from your chat until a new menu appears. Select Chat Settings to open the different options to customize how your conversation appears to that user. Toggle the Message Notifications tab to turn off any incoming notifications from that user.

You will receive all other alerts except the ones from this specific user. Snapchat allows you to put one or as many users as you want on Do Not Disturb.

How to Turn Off Group Notifications on Snapchat

Users enjoy group chats and video calls on Snapchat and can add up to 63 users in a group. These chats can become quite active with people constantly sharing things.

If you feel like taking a break from a Snapchat group, consider putting it on mute. Snapchat won’t send any alerts related to that group, while all other settings and notifications will remain the same.

To turn off group notifications for a specific group on Snapchat:

Long tap the group to open the settings and details. Tap Chat Settings to customize your group alerts. Select Message Notifications. This feature is on All Messages by default. Change the notification settings to Silent.

These changes will be automatically updated to your account.

If you have a number of users muted, you should use the Snapchat Friend Checkup feature to clean up your friends list.

The Benefits of Disabling Snapchat Notifications

There is no specific reason why users disable notifications. It depends on their needs and requirements. But here are a few reasons why you may want to try out muting notifications…

In a world of gadgets, people want to put their devices aside and relax for a while. Reducing screen time improves your mental health and motivates you for the coming day.

Avoiding Battery Drain

Snapchat is known to eat quite a lot of battery power of your phone, mainly due to the camera and video features. Notifications can also add to battery usage, something you don’t want if you are running low. Disabling notifications can help save some battery life.

Improving Your Focus

It’s normal to get distracted every time your phone beeps. Fortunately, by silencing notifications, users can better focus on other things like studying and work.

Maintain Your Boundaries on Snapchat

Snapchat has the potential to become quite addictive once you start using it. Although it’s an interesting app with exciting features and regular updates, we all want a break sometimes focus on other activities.

If you feel your screen time has increased considerably using Snapchat, you can silence the app’s notifications for specific contacts, groups, or the app as a whole.
